Day 134

I kept my camera handy throughout the day.

On the way to the bus stop, I took a panoramic of Alex walking and some of the trees along the path.

These purple flowers grew within the last few days.

The moon still showed in the sky, as the sun was rising higher.

I forgot this little creature the 1st time I posted this entry. I'm not sure how that happened. Anyway, this squirrel surprised me. It stayed calm about a foot away from me. I didn't notice it was there until I was that close. It hopped about 2 feet in front of me and then to my other side, just watching me. I guess I'm weird to them, because I don't try to threaten them. Look at those little hands, ears and bush tail! So cute!

John and I went to Carytown for lunch. As we were walking from Can Can to Premiere Costumes, I noticed this dead ivy still clinging to the high wall. The ivy below that had been cut away from the wall, but the trails of it still showed.

I bought some dessert at Jean Jacques, and took a panoramic of the clouds, from the parking lot.

On the way to the playground, I took a photo of one of the many buds that fell during the last long storm.

While at the playground, I took a panoramic of the trees in front of it.

On the way back to the house, I noticed this large fly. It was about the size of my thumb. The close up makes it creepier looking.

In the evening, Alex and I went to a photography show. When we arrived back home, the sky had a reddish glow. I used the hand held twilight setting to capture the trees in this lightened night sky.

Day 69

It was still rainy and overcast this morning, so I took photos of wet plants. The weather has improved.

I liked the discoloration in this pile of wet leaves.

These red berries had lovely clinging drops of water.

Some of the gumballs were dark when wet...

...and some were normal colored.

The pine cones were dark from the rain.

Day 62

The thin sheets of ice from yesterday had melted by 3pm, but there were still thicker areas and chunks.

Day 51

Happy New Year to all! Today we went to see a movie and for frozen yogurt. These were taken in the different parking lots.

There was light green new growth on this kind of bush.

I like the texture of these bushes.

I like the color variations of the leaves on this bush.

This isn't a Holly because the leaves are lacking thorns, but the berries are similar.

I like the shape of this tree.

In the median of parking lot for the frozen yogurt shop, are many dead flowers. The brown centers and stems are all that remain. I don't normally use flash, but I've started to like the contrast effect that it causes when used. This was taken at sunset, but photos taken with that low light are blurry with my camera. Flash gives the photo more definition where needed. In this case, it also intensified the colors of the brown centers...which are not solely brown.

Day 44 - Christmas Day

As part of our Christmas traditions, we went to my parents' house for a large breakfast. After breakfast, I went outside to take some photos.

This is a dead hydrangea. I was still alive about a month ago, but now all the blooms have died. Mom plans on cutting it back soon, which means removing the dead blooms.

This is a beachy plant. I love the fuzzy texture and appearance of it.

Gumball

Dad likes to pay Alex (as he used to pay us when we were kids) to pick up the massive amount of gumballs that cover the yard. They missed this one, but there aren't many left.

This is a dead potted plant.

After 1pm, we headed over to John's parents' house for more festivities. The sky was overcast, but not thick enough that you could not see the sun. Later, it snowed...which we will get to in a moment.

The snow was still falling as we were leaving. This is snow collected on the front passenger side window.

By the time we got home, the blanket of snow was thick. I figured I would photograph some snow covered plants just in case there is a freak thing and there is no snow in the morning...that is doubtful.

This is a Rhododendron.

Day 37

Today was a very busy day, which included lunch with Noah, John and Alex at Mom's Siam. I saw these plants outside the restaurant. There is still snow on the ground, so these were in various states of freezing death.

My camera didn't focus on the tip, but I do like that it picked up the veins of the petal.

This is a dead base of the pink flowers.

These are a different pink flower.

John thinks that these plants (which were abundant) are Thai chilies, which is appropriate since Mom's Siam is a Thai restaurant.

Day 34

Now that my arm is healing, I decided to venture out into the chilly weather for some photo taking. Plus, I didn't want another day of photographing Robins. I think you all have had enough glutton birds.

Outside, there is still snow and now some ice. I noticed that the snow has killed all of my Camellia blooms. That is sad, but hopefully it will rebloom. However, more snow will happen, so the blooms will probably die quickly again.

The melted snow has iced over on this ivy leaf. I like being able to see the melted and refrozen path the upper snow has made. It was very glittery.

Day 15

I was at my parents' house today for another round of kitty duty. I decided to poke around and take photos of some of their other plants.

Fern

Light Pink and Light Green Hydrangea

This plant is starting to brown in parts. This is sort of neat because the brown petals are transparent.

This is an underside view angled up, so the transparency is more evident.

While I was busy taking photos, this little bug showed up. It knew I was above it, because it kept moving back and forth. I like the purple and pink tones of the bug. Perhaps this flower is it's home.

It looked at me, so I snapped this photo.

These are the flowers that are normally in my parents' window boxes, but since dad is repainting the house, they are on the stone wall.

They have a few great pine trees. I didn't want to walk to the back or side yards to take photos. This is mostly because those areas are dark. This tree in the front yard, still had a few pine trees.

This is the Camellia at our house. The blooms are opening up more. The quickness of the blooming cycle is also due to the daily rain we have had.

Day 6

Today, I took a quick walk down the main path in front of the houses. I'm working on other projects, so it was almost dusk by the time I got around to taking photos.

I found a leaf that had been eaten by bugs. It reminds me of lace.

And, a tree that has ivy climbing up it's trunk.

I like that the vines are similar in color to the tree and that they weave over each other.

The ivy is thicker at the top than the bottom.

Most of the ivy leaves at the bottom are dead.
